Our founder, Wayne Hazzard, built this company on the values of hard work, integrity, and community. Today, Jeff Crowder and Maggie Reams carry that torch, leading a team of dedicated electricians with over 60 years of combined experience. We are a Virginia Class A Licensed Contractor, fully insured, and all of our employees complete OSHA and first aid courses. We’re not just a company; we’re your neighbors, friends, and the reliable experts you can always count on.
Jeff Crowder
Owner, COO
Jeff Crowder became COO/Owner in 2019, when Hazzard Electrical was acquired from his father, Earl Crowder. Jeff is responsible for the recruitment of employees (trade shows & career days) and the procurement of work (open-market bidding or negotiated bidding). He’s been working at Hazzard since 1982 when it started as a summer job for him. Then, in 1996, he joined the company full-time. “As we continue to grow Hazzard Electrical into the next generation, we will need other good people to make this happen,” Jeff observed. “Electrical work is a great career but you have to put in the time and effort.” Jeff graduated from Patrick Henry High School and Randolph Macon College, where he studied business and economics. Jeff is married to Mary Helen and has two sons, Zachary and Jackson.
Maggie Reams
Owner, CFO
I started my journey at Hazzard at the age of 12. I would spend the summers helping in the office learning a little bit from everyone. Back then my favorite part was getting to go to lunch with my Uncle Earl. I came on as an actual employee in the summer of 2008, finally getting paid more than just lunch! I was completing my Business degree at VCU and during that time I realized, “Hey, I love this place and what we do, I might try to buy it one day!” I always knew there was something special about the people that we have here, a good number have been here 20-30 years, and they are what keep me going, really. When Jeff and I were presented with the opportunity to buy the company from Earl in 2019, it was the opportunity of a lifetime. I live for this business and what we accomplish. So many of the K-12 schools in Central Virginia are Hazzard projects and it makes me smile when I drive past them knowing we serve our community in such an impactful and lasting way.
As a mom to three little ones, being a business owner can be quite tough. Finding time to be 100% good at both is nearly impossible. I have been blessed by God to have been given this opportunity and to be surrounded by such great and wonderful team members, friends, and family that have supported both my husband Ricky and me in this crazy journey! I hope that Jeff and I will continue to build on the legacy that my uncle and his dad built here at Hazzard for many years to come.
